UPDATE NO 260 21 July 2017

Programme:

Improving the Quality of Audit Project

Update:

Today is the day of the first workshop, on s47 audits. Agencies attending are Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Milton Keynes, Oxfordshire, and Slough. Brighton & Hove are unable to attend on the first day but will subsequently.

The first workshop will concentrate on defining practice standards for s47 audits. This is likely to be the hardest part of the process. Not many LAs do this so it may come as a surprise. Here is an example of a typical audit statement:

There is evidence of appropriate consultation with other agencies about the investigation and its issues.”

This is a vague statement and there is no guarantee that any two auditors would agree what it means or what the evidence would look like. What is appropriate? What is consultation? What are issues?

Action Required:

David Goosey (contact details below) is running the project and he says,

I hope that at the end of the first workshop we will have a set of draft standards for people to take back to their organisations to consult on.”

The second workshop is scheduled for Friday 21 September. for more details, go to the Improving Audit Quality page or contact David Goosey.

Please can you check the listings at the Quality Assurance/Audit Managers page to make sure we have the most appropriate contact in your team.
