Programme:

Pre-proceedings and family justice hub – Research in Practice Toolkit published

Update:

On 22 July Research in Practice published an open access resource hub to support family-centred practice and decision-making in pre-proceedings (PLO) and the Family Court, including guidance, practice tools, publications, videos and podcasts.

Action Required:

The pre-proceedings and family justice hub has been developed through the DfE Covid Recovery and Building Back Better funding, in partnership with Essex County Council and the regional leads involved in the project across England.

Programme:

Home Office response to IICSA report on CSE Organised Networks

Update:

On 27 July the Home Office published its response to the recommendations of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse report on Child sexual exploitation by organised networks

Action Required:

Responses include: a commitment to renew the Child Exploitation Disruption Toolkit; a consideration of the Inquiry’s recommendations on adding detail around the role of the internet in any future update to child sexual exploitation (CSE) guidance; and funding dedicated child sexual abuse and exploitation analysts in every policing region to drive improvement in the collection, analysis and use of data on CSE.

New SESLIP MoU issued

Update:

In July, SESLIP Steering Group issued a new Memorandum of UnderstandingThis reflects extended agreements on data benchmarking on a national basis. Thanks to Portsmouth for returning the first signed copy, available here.

Action Required:

We ask the Director of Children’s Services, the Chief Executive and the Lead Member for Children’s Services for each authority to sign this document to symbolise the professional, corporate and political commitment to joint working in the interests of promoting better outcomes for children and young people.

ILACS1 inspections completed in the South East

Update:

On 29 July the last of 19 ILACS1 inspections in the South East was published. Of the 19, 12 improved one grade, 5 stayed the same, and 2 moved down a grade. The latest tally is 4 outstanding; 6 good; 7 requires improvement; and 2 inadequate.

Action Required:

A fuller analysis, with regional comparisons is available here. ILACS2 has already started and a table of waiting times is available here. The national ranking includes 15 authorities without a published ILACS1 report.
