Since April 2022, the four inspectorates (Ofsted, CQC, HMICFRS, HMIProbation) are committed to carrying out up to 12 JTAIs per year. They actually achieved 8 in 9 months of 2022, 10 in 2023 and 9 in 2024. JTAIs can come with one of five focusses. :

Authorities with a main grading of Inadequate do not normally receive JTAI inspections.

Inspection outcomes

JTAI inspection reports are published on the Ofsted website. All reports require a Written Statement of Action (WSOA). Some reports identifiy Priority Actions (PAs).

Since 2016, 66 JTAI reports (including for closed authorities) have been published, of which 10 (15.2%) included priority actions.

Since the new guidance was introduced in April 2022, 31 JTAI reports have been published, of which 4 (12.9%) included priority actions
