Project 26: Coproducing a regional kinship local offer, focusing on less heard voices

A collaborative project with national Kinship charity

Coproducing a Kinship local offer in the South East

The South East 19 local authorities are working with national charity Kinship to engage with Kinship carers from across our region to understand what they would like to see in their local authority’s kinship local offer.

The “kinship local offer” is a new legal requirement for local authorities to coproduce with kinship carers an offer which clearly sets out the support available to kinship carers and the children they care for. It requires local authorities to provide visible, accessible, and up-to-date information on legal, financial, emotional, and practical support

As part of this work Kinship is engaging with LAs across the South East region in Winter 2025/26 to understand the local authority’s view on gaps in their local offer. In 2026 Kinship will then be surveying kinship carers in the South East to understand what they would like to see. Kinship will then be producing a framework for Local authorities to benchmark themselves against to ensure they are covering all the key aspects that kinship carers have identified as important.
