Education Network

Our next meeting will be on 9th October 2026, in London.

Our Network works with the SE19 SEND Network, liaising about parallel developments across education including children and young people with SEND and support for implementation of the DfE’s Every Child Achieving and Thriving white paper and the reforms to the SEND system.

SESLIP is in the process of planning our work for 2026-27 as guided by our Steering Group and in line with DfE priorities and RIIA grant. In the meantime here is this Network’s most recent forward plan for information.

Education Directors Network Meeting documents:

Work with DfE RISE (Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence) Team

The SESLIP Education Directors Network welcomes the focus on school improvement and standards of the DfE’s RISE programme. Our Network meets with the DfE’s South-east Regions Group officers periodically to discuss approaches and develop collaboration.

The following Collaborative Approaches Agreement was reached in autumn 2025 to guide communication between RISE targeted support advisers and the local authority:

RIIA_DfE Project: Practice Sharing about the Quality Assurance of Non-school AP

A task-and-finish group, chaired by Hayden Ginns (Portsmouth City Council) met between November 2025 and April 2026. The purpose of the group was to: promote learning and practice-sharing for those leading oversight and monitoring of alternative provision (AP) from a local authority perspective with a focus on the quality assurance of non-school AP.

Terms of reference for A2E Group

Members of the A2E Group undertaken practice development projects.
The most recent project has had a focus on practice-sharing between LAs about provision of education under section 19 of the Education Act 1996.
