UPDATE NO 538 06 January 2023

The Big Listen Survey

The Big Listen is research being carried by LIIA and SESLIP. Together we are working with authorities across the London and the South East to help us develop our respective regional workforce strategies. A poster encouraging staff to complete the survey is here.

Action Required:

The survey alongside other activities (focus groups and best practice research) is designed to gather information to help ensure the strategy is informed by the best evidence. You can access the survey here.

Two further years of core funding for SESLIP and other IIAs announced

On 5 January DfE announced core funding for SESLIP for 2023-24 and 2024-25 at the same level as this year, £234,800. This funding is earmarked for data benchmarking; peer challenge; and small packages of sector led support.

Action Required:

This follows the publication of Evaluation of local authority support on children’s social care services, which included the following recommendation (my highlight):

“12. To reflect on strong views from the sector that authorities are the best placed to undertake data-gathering, peer challenge and review based on their understanding of the regional context, and to consider whether a re-framing of RISL’s monitoring responsibilities and boosted capacity for RIIAs is merited in light of this. This could include creating a longer term strategy for RIIAs with the necessary resources to help regional arrangements to support sector- led improvement activities.”
